DESIGN PROCESS
Looking to create a custom home stands out in your neighborhood? The design inspiration is key to crafting a unique living space that reflects your personality and lifestyle. By focusing on the architectural elements and thoughtfully planning the layout builders can create a home that is both beautiful and functional. Embrace the design process to ensure your new home is a true reflection of your vision.
1. Identify Goals and Needs
Creating a custom home begins with the client's needs and desires. We will collaborate closely with you to discuss our vision and establish essential components for the design. Together, they outline the requirements and set a budget, ensuring that every aspect aligns with your design goals & aspirations. This foundational step helps to create a clear vision for the finished home, guiding the entire design process.
2. Research
After establishing the vision for the home, we will engage in thorough research to identify potential challenges and budget constraints. Ww will aim to ensure that all elements of the project come together harmoniously. This phase involves gathering information to address any issues that may arise as well as exploring various sources for design inspiration, including pictures, articles, and photographs. This careful preparation sets the foundation for a successful one-of-a-kind architectural design.
3. Brainstorm Ideas
Once our team finishes our design research, we will brainstorm and analyzing ideas, which involves many different methods, including sketching, comprising lists, and writing down ideas. These ideas are often governed by the elements of architecture.
ELEMENTS OF ARCHITECTURE
Our team of designers will consider how to implement the elements of architecture in your new home design. As we brainstorm, we will consider the following design elements:
PATTERN & REPITITION
When shapes and lines repeat, they form a pattern. Patterns can be commonly found in brick patterns, window shapes, floors, and trim. A home will lack unity and harmony if it doesn’t have some form of repetition and pattern.
SYMMETRY & ASSYMMETRY
A home is symmetrical when the left side of the exterior mirrors the right side. On the other hand, an asymmetrical house is one that has different left and right sides that do not mirror each other. Both symmetry and asymmetry reflect distinct personalities and styles in-home designs.
CONTRAST
The contrast in architecture is when materials with different textures, colors, and shapes are used together to attract attention. Highlights and shadows can also create contrast. Architects like to implement contrast because it creates variation in home design.
PROPORTION & SCALE
Proportion and scale are critical elements in architecture that need to carefully be thought out. Proportion in architecture is how certain spaces compare to human size. A large room with high vaulted ceilings creates an open space that is ideal for large gatherings. On the other hand, a smaller room (like a bedroom) creates a more private and personal feel.
THEME
Home & building designs can take on different themes and styles. Architectural features can be based on historical influences. For example, homes can include classical columns and roof shapes. Our design team may also choose to use a theme from a movement. Implementing square and rectangular shapes in the structure can make a home look more modern. The theme of your home makes a large impact on the overall feel.
4. Schematic Design
Once our design team has a general idea of the overall building design, it’s time to start putting it to paper. The design is sketched out to communicate the general scope of the project to you. The conceptual drawings must be approved by the owner before moving on in the design process.
5. Design Development
After approval, the design plans are translated into physical form. The lead project designer then includes precise measurements for floors plans and elevations. The building is drawn out in greater refined detail. We will continue to meet with you periodically to finalize design decisions. At this point, changes can still be made to the design, but we will finalize the design of the building during this phase to avoid expensive costs during construction.
6. Compose Construction Drawings
Finally, we will produce large-scale drawings that are submitted and approved for the home’s construction. (To builder/ client) Material parameters and details are included for those that will be involved in the construction. The construction drawings assist in helping engineers, interior designers, landscapers, and other construction consultants clearly envision the design of the home.
